Professional Bio

Karen Schwarz is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, a Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse counselor, and has a Master's Degree in Psychology.

She has provided mental health, chemical dependency, and relationship counseling in both the private and public sector since 1984, for agencies and in private practice, has supervised other counselors, and has directed an outpatient chemical dependency program.

She has presented trainings to other professionals on Counselor Ethics, Counselor/Client Relationships, Diagnosing Substance Abuse and Dependence, Hypnosis, and Group Therapy Process. She has also presented education workshops to divorcing parents, providing them with information to enable them to keep their struggles separate from their children's needs.

Karen has practiced divorce mediation for over five years (as of 2011), enabling couples to negotiate mutually acceptable parenting plans, increasing the amount of cooperation between parents regarding child-related issues. She is currently a facilitator for collaborative law cases and has been a member of the CNY Collaborative Family Law Professionals group since 2009.
